Senior Pastor

John Hsu

John Hsu has served as the Senior Pastor of CEFC since 2009. From 1975 to 2003, John and his wife, Nellie, had been missionaries of Evangelical Free Church of America serving in Hong Kong. There John taught in and later became president of Evangel Seminary from 1986-2003. Besides teaching and preaching, John was advisory pastor to various churches and frequently consulted in relation to church and other ministries. He and Nellie helped planted the Tsim Fook EFC in Hong Kong, and John served as the pastor for 4 years. Since leaving Hong Kong in 2003, John and Nellie's status has been changed to missionaries at large, focusing on leadership training to the Chinese in East Asia, North America and Europe. They have 3 grown children who are serving Christ in different parts of the world.

Cantonese Ministry

Stephen Tang, Lead Pastor

Stephen Tang has joined the pastoral team at CEFC since January 2011. His main responsibilities include leading and shepherding the Cantonese congregation. Stephen graduated from the Evangel Seminary in Hong Kong in 1995 and immediately joined North Point Alliance Church as the minister. There he was ordained as pastor in 2000 and had served until 2010. During this time, he had involved in ministries including evangelism, church planting and leading newly established church. Stephen was baptized in 1985 and was called to leave his secular job as production engineer to go into full time ministry seven years later. Together with his wife, Anit, and their 3 sons, Josiah, Shalom and Him Him, they came to the United States in 2008 during Stephen's sabbatical leave. He took this time to further his theology training. As led by God under His grace, Stephen later on moved the family to the U.S. and joined CEFC as the pastoral staff.

Ruth Chantse
Email: rchantse@cefc.org Ruth Chantse has been on staff at CEFC since 2005, mainly serving in the Cantonese ministry. She grew up in Hong Kong and came to the U.S. in 1982. After working for many years in the retail industry, she sensed God's leading of her towards pastoral ministry. She completed her graduate study at Logos Seminary in 2005. Ruth and her husband, Samuel Chan, have two sons, Nathanael and Enoch.

English Ministry

Richard Lew, Lead Pastor
Email: rlew@cefc.org Richard Lew's life was transformed by faith in Jesus Christ through the ministry of CEFC and is amazed to have been called by the Lord to serve the English ministry there. Along with his wife Danette, Richard aims to proclaim the whole Gospel with clarity and depth so that all people might grow in community with one another and the Lord, on mission for the sake of the Gospel.

Richard Chung

"Pastor Rich" has been a pastor in Asian American churches since 1993, both in Los Angeles and in the Bay Area. He believes in the importance of teaching God's Word accurately so that people can understand and apply the Bible to their lives. Richard is a graduate of UCLA with a degree in economics/business. He received his doctor of ministry at Talbot School of Theology on the topic of helping people to resist sexual temptations and pornography. Richard and his wife Connie have a strong love for Jesus and enjoy sharing God's love to the community here at CEFC. They have two young sons named Eden and Reagan. For recreation, the family enjoys sports, travel, and meeting up with friends and family for tasty meals.

Richard Zuniga

Richard Zuniga currently serves part time as the youth pastor at CEFC while pursuing the Master of Divinity degree from Talbot School of Theology. Richard has attended CEFC since 1985. In 1997 he was called to serve at Evangelical Formosan Church of Orange County for 4 years and subsequently to serve the youth at Chinese Alliance Bible Church for 6 years. In December of 2007 he returned to CEFC, his home church, to serve as the minister to youth.

Lily Chan-Tan

Hailing from Singapore, Lily Chan has a different set of 5Cs that are much alive and living: Christ, Caleb, Calvin, Crystal and Constance. The family had the opportunity to serve Christ as missionaries in Liberia, West Africa which was the birthplace of their first two children. Lily has a strong passion to study God's Word. Augustine's Tolle, lege (Take up and Read) intrigues her, but in the context of educational praxis (reflective action). However, the quest for a dialogical milieu amidst a congenial community continues. She is an alumna of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS), IL.

Mandarin Ministry

Jonathan Siah, Lead Pastor

Jonathan Siah and his wife Dorcas came to CEFC in 2003. They were born in China, but both came to the U.S. from Taiwan. Jonathan became a full time staff in 2006, mainly serving as the pastor to the Mandarin congregation. Prior to his full time ministry, he had been an engineer and scientist for many years. They have three sons and two grandsons. Jonathan has great interest in apologetics and in his leisure time, he likes gardening and sports.

Carol Hsu Farrara

Carol Hsu Farrara began serving in the Mandarin ministry as a volunteer in November 2004. She became a part time staff member in April 2005. She is the counselor of various fellowship groups of different age. Carol's passion is in outreach and helping believers build intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Carol and her husband, John Farrara, have 2 children, Daniel and Serena.

Candy Chan

Candy Chan was born in Hong Kong and moved to California in 1987. She can speak fluent English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Her personal mission statement is building up the Army of God to stand firm on their faith. It is a blessing to her that God gives her an opportunity to serve children and Cantonese college students here at CEFC. Our next generation is the future in His Kingdom. Sharing the gospel and equipping our young people are the top two priorities in her life.

Wing Yee, Church Office Administrator

As church office administrator, each day brings new challenges and joy to Wing Yee as she experiences God's faithfulness and His presence. Her role here is to ensure that everybody gets to do their ministry without bumping into each other. Her passion is fostering the ideal that the church is the spiritual home for all our people, that when they come, they are greeted with not just "hello" but with "welcome home".

Nancy Ho, Church Office Secretary

Nancy has joined the staff since 1988. During the years of her service, she has deeply experienced God's faithfulness, care and protection for the Church. Her role at CEFC allows her opportunities to meet new visitors. She is filled with joy whenever she has a chance to introduce her spiritual home to others. To face the changes and the growth of the Church, she likes the motto, "be thankful always, give all that I am able". She and her husband, Michael, have 1 son and 1 daughter. They are independent and have their own families.
